Our mission is to teach young girls to embrace the joy of being a woman through creative mentoring, personal empowerment, community service, academic excellence & cultural exposure.
Yearly Mentoring Academy
Each year KD hosts a mentoring academy that lasts 5-12 weeks (varies based upon program objectives). We offer exciting opportunities to affirm their self-esteem, encourage teamwork, give back to the community, showcase their talent & embrace relationship with family and friends. The yearly program fosters a time of building relationship, focused mentoring & group dynamics. The energy of KD is absolutely awe inspiring. The girls who participate each year are transformed by the experience of being "a KD girl." View photos of our Signature Event online. Click Here
Mentoring Sessions
KD allows teen girls ages 14 & up to participate as Teen Mentors during our mentoring sessions. The teen mentors lead group discussions, assist with craft projects, attend special events & encourage the girls to be the best they can be.
Community Service
KD Girls & Mentors are encouraged to participate in various community service projects each year. This year KD hosted it's own charity tea party at Ooh La La's 1942 East 7th Street in Historic Elizabeth neighborhood. Each girl that attended the tea party was required to donate a teddy bear to benefit the Salvation Army's Center of Hope in Charlotte, NC.
Cultural Enrichment Activities
We provide opportunities for the girls to attend uplifting cultural events, including theatre and dance performances, concerts and museum exhibits.
Manners & Such
With the help of our 'Fairy God-Mother' (she's a DIVA) we teach the girls contemporary rules of proper manners & etiquette including social skills, verbal communication, etc. This year the etiquette lesson was reinforced during our charity tea party where the girls learned the history of tea and proper manners (while enjoying the pleasure of playing dress-up in hats and gloves).
