The Daisy
The Daisy was chosen as the official KD flower. As we planned and prepared for the program, we encountered a simple flower that appealed to the girl in all of us. At the time we decided to adopt the daisy as our own, we knew nothing more about the daisy than “we like it!” But as time progressed and planning and preparation continued we decided to make the daisy more meaningful to us than just the flower on our logo.
The Daisy symbolizes innocence, youth, gentleness, purity, simplicity, modesty, peace, loyal love, beauty and sisterhood. The Daisy symbolizes KD! All that this program aspires to be, the daisy possesses. We’re teaching our girls to love themselves just the way they are. We’re teaching them that by working together nothing is impossible to achieve. We’re sharing with them the importance of family and friendship because these relationships will nurture them for a lifetime. And they’ve taught us the same.
We present each KD girl with a very personal reminder of what KD represents. Our award ceremony includes a time of pinning each girl with a gold Daisy pin. The pin serves as a reminder to enjoy their innocence, embrace their youth, treasure their purity, soak in the simplicity of life at 11, be loyal with your love, share with your peace and commit to sisterhood.
